Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Direct Access Scheme (DAS)?
The Direct Access Scheme (DAS) is the training and testing route to obtaining a full Category A motorcycle licence in the UK. It allows eligible riders to train on and test on motorcycles over 595cc, rather than progressing through smaller categories. DAS comprises Module 1 (manoeuvres test) and Module 2 (road riding test).
How much does DAS training cost in Warrington?
Full DAS training at On Your Bike in Warrington starts from £1,250 all-inclusive. This covers the Module 1 assessment, Module 1 high-speed training and DVSA test, and Module 2 road riding and DVSA test. All DVSA Module 1 and Module 2 test fees are included in the package price. The only additional cost is the DVSA theory test at £23 if not already passed.
What are the age requirements for the Direct Access Scheme?
You must be at least 24 years old to take DAS in the UK. Alternatively, if you have held an A2 licence for at least two years, you can take DAS from age 21. There is no upper age limit.
What licence do I get after completing DAS?
After passing Module 1 and Module 2 via DAS you receive a full Category A motorcycle licence. This entitles you to ride any motorcycle of any engine size and power output, with no restrictions on speed or passenger carrying.
Do I need a CBT certificate for DAS training?
Yes. You must hold a valid CBT certificate before beginning DAS training on the road. You will also need to have passed the DVSA motorcycle theory test before you can sit your Module 1 or Module 2 tests.
What is the difference between Module 1 and Module 2?
Module 1 is the off-road manoeuvres test conducted at a DVSA Motorcycle Manoeuvring Area (MMA). It tests slow-speed control, figure-of-eight riding, slalom, u-turn, emergency stop and swerve. Module 2 is an on-road riding test lasting approximately 40 minutes, assessing general riding ability, hazard perception and road safety.
Can I do DAS in parts rather than all at once?
Yes. On Your Bike offers DAS training in three parts: Part 1 (Module 1 slow speed assessment from £225), Part 2 (Module 1 high speed, mock test and DVSA Module 1 test from £500 including test fee), and Part 3 (Module 2 road riding and DVSA test at £525 including test fee). You can book each part separately.
