One-day Course From £225 — Bike, Helmet & Jacket Included
If you’re based in Liverpool and ready to get your CBT or work towards your full motorcycle licence, our training centre at Thelwall Parish Hall, Bell Lane, Thelwall, Warrington, WA4 2SX is around 20 miles east — a straightforward motorway run that takes about 30–35 minutes by car.
Getting Here by Car from Liverpool
From Liverpool city centre, head east on the M62 motorway — it connects directly to the Warrington road network in around 30–40 minutes depending on where you’re starting from in Liverpool and traffic on the M62.
You have two easy options once you reach Warrington. Exit at Junction 9 (A49) and head south through Winwick into Warrington, then follow signs towards Thelwall and Bell Lane. Alternatively, exit at Junction 10 (M6 interchange), head south briefly on the M6, then take Junction 20 (Lymm/Thelwall). Both routes bring you directly onto Bell Lane. Parking is available on site at the Parish Hall.
Getting Here by Public Transport from Liverpool
By TRAIN then BUS
Liverpool is very well connected to Warrington by train. TransPennine Express and other operators run frequent direct services from Liverpool Lime Street to Warrington Central, departing every 20 minutes throughout the day with a journey time of approximately 24–25 minutes. Warrington Central station is a short walk from the Bus Interchange, where you can pick up the 5A bus (Warrington’s Own Buses) towards Lymm, alighting at Thelwall, Pickering Arms. Bell Lane and the Parish Hall are a short walk from there. Total journey time from Liverpool Lime Street is approximately 50–60 minutes.
Alternative Train Route
There’s also a direct train from Liverpool Lime Street to Warrington Bank Quay via Earlestown, which runs less frequently but gives you another option depending on your timing. From Bank Quay it’s a short bus or taxi ride to connect with the 5A towards Thelwall.
About Liverpool
Liverpool is one of the great cities of the North West — a UNESCO World Heritage-recognised waterfront, birthplace of the Beatles, home to two of English football’s most storied clubs, and a city with a cultural energy that has shaped British music, art and sport for generations. With a population of over 486,000, it is the largest city in the Liverpool City Region, which is home to more than 1.5 million people.
The M62 motorway is Liverpool’s main eastward artery, connecting the city directly to Warrington, Manchester, and on across the Pennines to Leeds and Hull — and once you have your motorcycle licence, that same corridor opens up in a completely different way. The city’s roads are diverse and challenging — from the busy dual carriageways around the Queensway Tunnel and Edge Lane to the quieter residential streets of the suburbs — and the experience of riding in and out of a major city is an invaluable part of becoming a confident, all-round motorcyclist.
Whether you’re commuting across Merseyside, heading east to Cheshire’s quieter roads, or planning longer rides up through Lancashire and the Forest of Bowland, getting your CBT and full licence is the gateway to all of it.
CBT FAQ
The questions Liverpool riders actually ask us before they book.
Is the M62 from Liverpool a straightforward run, or should I worry about rush-hour traffic before my 9am start?
The M62 is generally fine outside peak hours, but the stretch between Liverpool and the M6 junction can get heavy between 7:30 and 9:00am heading east. We’d suggest leaving Liverpool by 7:45 at the latest for a 9:00 start. From Junction 9 or 10 it’s only another 10 minutes to Thelwall, so once you’re off the motorway you’re almost there. If you’d rather not risk it, the train from Liverpool Lime Street to Warrington Central takes just 24–25 minutes and runs every 20 minutes — plenty of our Liverpool riders come by train and find it completely stress-free.
I’ve never sat on a motorcycle in my life — is it worth making the trip out from Liverpool for a CBT?
Absolutely, and most of our Liverpool students are complete beginners. The CBT is specifically designed for people who’ve never ridden before — you spend the morning in our off-road area at Thelwall learning the controls and basic manoeuvres before heading out on the road in the afternoon. By the end of the day you’ll have your DL196 certificate and be legally able to ride a 125cc on L-plates. The journey from Liverpool is straightforward, and once you’ve done your CBT you’ll be seeing the M62 in a very different light on the way home.
After my CBT, what are the best roads for a Liverpool rider to start building experience on?
Once you have your CBT certificate you can ride any 125cc on L-plates on public roads. From Liverpool the natural starting point is the quieter A-roads across Merseyside and into Cheshire — routes like the A57 through Warrington and down towards Knutsford give you a great mix of speeds and junctions without being overwhelming. When you’re ready to push further, the lanes through the Forest of Bowland north of Preston are a popular step up. Many of our Liverpool students come back for the full licence — Module 1 and Module 2 — once they’ve put a few months of real riding in. Give us a call when you’re ready and we’ll talk through how many training hours make sense.
