About Grappenhall
Grappenhall is one of the most attractive villages in the Warrington borough, built around a medieval parish church — St Wilfrid’s — with a cobbled village street lined with sandstone buildings that give it a distinctly timeless feel. The village has its own canal-side walks along the Bridgewater Canal, which passes to the north.
The surrounding lanes between Grappenhall, Thelwall and Lymm are among the finest local riding roads in the area — quiet, winding and genuinely enjoyable once you have your licence. Getting your CBT here really does mean you’re riding from day one on roads you already know and love.
CBT FAQ
The questions Grappenhall riders actually ask us before they book.
I’m literally in the next village — do I need to do anything different to book compared to someone travelling further?
Not at all — the booking process is exactly the same regardless of where you’re coming from. The only difference is you’ll have the easiest journey of anyone on the course. No motorway stress, no parking worries — just a 5-minute hop down the lane. If anything, being this close means you could pop in beforehand for a look around, which a lot of riders from further away can’t easily do. Just drop us a message and we’ll sort it.
I walk the Bridgewater Canal towpath regularly — will the on-road training go anywhere near familiar Grappenhall roads?
Very possibly. Our on-road CBT sessions use the quieter A and B roads around south Warrington, Thelwall and the surrounding villages — the kind of roads you’d recognise from driving or walking locally. That familiarity is actually a real advantage; knowing where a road goes, what the junctions look like and how the traffic flows helps you focus on the riding itself rather than navigating. You’ll go out on the road when your instructor judges you’re ready, and you’ll have radio contact throughout.
What are the best lanes around Grappenhall and Thelwall for a new rider to explore after the CBT?
You’re on the doorstep of some lovely riding. The lanes between Grappenhall, Lymm and Knutsford are quiet, well-surfaced and gently winding — ideal for building confidence without heavy traffic. The Bridgewater Canal corridor roads give you a real feel for Cheshire’s quieter side. When you’re ready to push further, the A56 south towards Altrincham is a great mixed-road run, and the lanes around Tatton Park are a natural next step. Come back for your full licence when you’re ready and we’ll help you make the most of what’s on your doorstep.
