CBT FAQ
The questions Altrincham riders actually ask us before they book.
Is the 5A bus from Altrincham really a direct service to Thelwall?
Yes — one of the most direct connections of any area we cover. The 5A departs from Altrincham Interchange and runs along the A56 through Lymm before dropping into Thelwall village, stopping at the Pickering Arms on Bell Lane. No changes required. Journey time to Thelwall is around 25–30 minutes. Check the Warrington’s Own Buses timetable before your training day to make sure you’re catching a departure that gets you to us with a few minutes to spare — the early services are reliable and the route is served regularly throughout the morning.
Will the A56 through Lymm feature in my on-road CBT training?
Quite possibly — the A56 corridor and the quieter roads around Lymm and Thelwall are exactly the kind of mixed roads we use for on-road training. If you drove or bused along the A56 to get to us in the morning, there’s a good chance you’ll recognise the roads you’re riding on during training. That’s actually a real advantage: you’re not trying to navigate unfamiliar roads whilst also learning to ride. Your instructor will be behind you on the radio throughout, and the routes are chosen to build your confidence progressively on a range of real-world road types.
What are the best rides from Altrincham once I have my CBT?
The A56 west through Lymm and into Cheshire is one of the most rewarding roads in the area — rolling countryside, good surfaces and light traffic outside rush hours. Dunham Massey and the lanes around Bowdon and Hale are lovely for early L-plate riding. When you’re ready to push further, head south into Cheshire towards Knutsford and Macclesfield — the roads open up beautifully. Many Altrincham riders who come to us for their CBT return for Module 1 and Module 2 once they’ve had a season on L-plates. The A56 will feel very familiar by then.
